Caithness Freedom Donates Over $25,000 to Community Organizations In 2022

Salem Township, Pa. — The Caithness Freedom Generating Station team continued its commitment to the community this year by contributing $22,000 to the Salem Township Volunteer Fire Co., along with holiday donations to the Berwick United Way, Salvation Army of Berwick, Shickshinny Area Food Pantry and Nescopeck Area Community Cupboard.

“Volunteer organizations play an important role in providing support and services to the community. It is important for companies like ours to step up and help others as leaders in the Salem Township business community. We are proud to help make the holidays a little better for those who need a helping hand,,” said Ross D. Ain, president of Caithness Energy, LLC.

The fire department donation marks the sixth installment of a long-term commitment to the fire company and the community that will continue through 2038. The Freedom team has supported several public improvement projects in Salem Township and the surrounding area, totaling more than $800,000 designated for completed community projects and future commitments.

Caithness Energy LLC partnered with Moxie Energy LLC to develop the Freedom generating project, an approximately 1,050-megawatt, natural gas-fired power project in Salem Township.

The generating station began commercial operation in 2018 and provides enough power to supply approximately 900,000 homes throughout the region.

Using state-of-the-art technology, the plant is the highest-efficiency user of natural gas in the region. The plant’s dry-cooling technology means that water usage is 95 percent lower than that of a plant of the same size using traditional cooling technology. Additionally, a highly efficient combined cycle plant such as Freedom reduces CO2 emissions by 3.2 million tons per year compared to older steam plants.
